Reuters: Eutelsat satellite company is negotiating with the EU on the deployment of its terminals in Ukraine instead of Starlink

The French satellite telecommunication company Eutelsat is negotiating with the European Union to provide Ukraine to communicate with fears that the United States can turn off Starlink, Reuters reports citing a company representative.

“We exchange views with the EU about how we can help in expanding the efforts of Ukraine,” said Eutelsat.

The company claims that their satellites can offer the same functions as Starlink. The operator’s statement says that Eutelsat has equipment that can be “quickly deployed in Ukraine to connect the most important missions”.

The Financial Times claims that negotiations with the EU concerned the use of OneWeb group, which consists of about 600 satellites at an altitude of 1200 km. The discussion also mentioned the operation of satellites in a geostationary orbit.

FT notes that Eutelsat, like Starlink, can provide a connection with Ukrainian drones.

Earlier, Reuters reported that the US authorities are discussing the possibility of disconnecting Ukraine’s access to the Starlink satellite system if Kiev refuses the transaction on rare -earth metals. Elon Musk denied this information.
