When the court makes a decision in the criminal case today, he must sentenced the accused to deprive freedom, and not to torture or death as a result of the torture conditions of detention, as it was under Stalin (today, by the way, the anniversary of his death). But this is in theory. In practice, people often lose their health in conclusion, become disabled and die both in places of imprisonment and shortly after liberation. And political prisoners, as in Stalin's times, are the hardest.
In modern Russia, until recently, there was only one “political” article - 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “The excitement of hatred or enmity, as well as the humiliation of human dignity”. But in 2020, during the Pandemia of Coronavirus, the so -called articles about fakes appeared, that is, the "public distribution of knowingly false information." Now there are three criminal articles in the fake about fakes. The most “popular” of these is Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Public distribution of knowingly false information about the use of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”, introduced in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation in March 2022. Since then, it has been edited and expanded several times. This article provides for up to 15 years in prison and is very actively used against political opponents of the authorities.
Political prisoners are the most vulnerable category in places of imprisonment, torture is most often applied to them. And one of the most common tortures is associated with non -ordering.
In early February 2025, the OVD-Info* launched the Emergency Project project to help political prisoners who do not provide medical assistance and who have severe diseases that impede detention and prison punishment. By January 2025, at least 160 such political prisoners were in Russian colonies and pre -trial detention centers. Their life and health are under threat due to inhuman circulation and poor conditions of content. At the same time, Russian legislation provides measures to facilitate the fate of seriously ill people. There is a "list of diseases that impede the serving of a sentence." But to achieve a medical examination in court to prove that the disease of the persecuted person is suitable for this list . According to the lawyer Ekaterina Selizarova, "on the Code of Criminal Procedure, examination can be appointed only in two cases - if a person is chained or mentally ill."
In December last year, the project “ Persons of Russian Resistance ” launched an international campaign to release 120 seriously ill -painted political prisoners. We will talk about three of them - not because they are the most nasty, but because there are more information about their destinies. But the attention of society and help in liberation is needed by everyone from this list.
