The United States conducts military operations against the Yemeni Hussites. Those in response are trying to attack the American aircraft carrier. What is known about the new war?

US President Donald Trump said on Saturday March 15 that the American army began a “decisive and powerful” wave of air strikes in the Khusiti militants in Northern Yemen. Trump explained this decision with the attacks of the armed group on ships in the Red Sea - on one of the most important world routes for transporting goods, oil and fuel.

“Today I ordered the US Armed Forces to proceed with decisive and powerful actions against Yemenic terrorists: Husitov,” Trump wrote on the Truth Social social networks, while noting that the United States respond to the ongoing shelling by the Hussites of American and other ships, planes and drones.

“I tell terrorists-hussians: your time has expired. You must stop attacks today. Otherwise, you are waiting for such hellish torment that you have not experienced yet, ”the US President added. “Our brave military is right now inflicting air strikes on terrorist bases, their leaders and missile defense, to protect American sea, air and naval assets and restore the freedom of navigation.” Washington promised to continue the blows until the rebels stop attacks on ships in the Red Sea.

A member of the Khusitov political bureau in Yemen told the BBC that Trump’s actions will most likely increase tension in the region, adding that “US aggression in Yemen is unjustified”.

The Ministry of Health, which is controlled by the Husthian rebels, reports that the number of those who died as a result of US strikes increased to 53. According to these data, there are women and children among the dead. Information is also received about 98 victims. The American side stated that among those killed as a result of airstrikes there were leaders of the militants, but the group did not confirm these losses.

The leader of the Khusitov Abdul-Malik al-Husi said that the militants will attack American ships in the Red Sea, while the shocks of Yemen will continue.

On the night of March 17, the US Army inflicted a series of shocks on the objects of the Husites. The goals were attacked in the port of Khodid, in the city of Zabid and in the village of al-Khazm. The night before, a blow was struck by the Khusitov offices in the Al-Jauf area, north of Sana.

Among the killed Ar-Rab Jafran is the head of the security service of the leader of the Khusitov Abdul al-Malik al-Hushi.

On Monday night, the Khusita reported that over the past 24 hours they had twice attacked the American aircraft carrier group "in response to continuing aggression." In particular, they claimed that they released 18 missiles and drones on the Harry Truman aircraft carrier and the warships accompanying him, without providing evidence. The American official previously informed Reuters that the American military aircraft shot down 11 drones launched by the Husites on Sunday, and not one of them approached the aircraft carrier.

"Not just bearded slippers"

Husits-a rebel group supported by Iran, which considers Israel to be its enemy, controls the capital of Yemen San and the north-west of the country. On Sunday, March 16, Iran reacted to the large -scale blows of the United States on the Yemeni Husites and the warning of Donald Trump Tehran about the immediate termination of the terrorist group. The Iranian authorities said that the Husites are independent and make their own strategic and operational decisions.

Husites claim that they act in support of Hamas in the war with Israel. The terrorists stated that they were attacked only by ships related to Israel, the USA or Great Britain. However, in fact, all the ships passed by the attacks were subjected to attacks. Since November 2023, the Husites attacked dozens of merchant ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, and also launched rockets and drones towards Israel.

“The Americans were struck by the goals that the intelligence managed to establish: weapons warehouses, missile storages and launchers, and air defense systems,” Military journalist Sergei Ausleder tells Novo-European. - The Husites have military infrastructure. For shelling ships in the sea requires radars. All these objects were amazed. The Husites themselves claim that only civilians died. The real results of the operation are still unknown. After all, it continues. The Americans claim that significant militants' leaders died under the blows. However, there is no confirmation of this yet. ”

“Husites are not just some bearded slippers, they control the territory approximately corresponding to the North Yemen state before its unification with South Yemen in 1990,” says Military Expert David Gandelman. - This is a large state, with a multimillion -dollar population, with the corresponding infrastructure, although backward due to national specifics. But in military terms, thanks to Iranian technical assistance, they are just very advanced in the field of missiles and UAVs. You can completely solve the problem of Husites only by a large ground operation with the help of their enemies in the person of the international recognized government of Yemen and the Southern Transition Council, which are supported by Saudi Arabia and the UAE. But the previous long -term war of the International Coalition, led by Saudi Arabia, did not give a positive result against the Husites, and although now there are no talk on this topic, there are no special practical steps yet.

Yemen in this regard is like Afghanistan: it’s easy to enter, it is difficult to go out, and besides hardships and deprivations, the war there usually does not bring any benefit to the entered. ”

“In the capital of Yemen Sanya and several other cities, large-scale rallies were held, consisting of tens of thousands of Kalashnikov’s armed men under the flags of the Husitov,” says the military observer David Sharp. - This is a planned support action. It is not yet a fact that such a demonstration is not a legal military goal from the point of view of international law. US aircraft struck throughout the territory controlled by Husites. The Americans bombed, among other things, the house of terrorists and the building, where they could be. This is a new word in such operations for the US Army. Abdul al-Malik al-Khushi is alive. He made a statement. But many other leaders could die. ”

According to Sharp, it is likely that the enemies of the Hussites, which are now on the combat contact line, can take advantage of sudden air support and move forward. But for this, it is necessary to arrange air raids for the objects of the Husites directly at the front.

“When the coalition led by Saudi Arabia defeated the Husitov forces in South Yemen, the militias did not want to move on,” Sharp recalls. - The Saudis tried to use the mercenaries and attract the Sudanese army. But these forces were not enough. It is possible that now this coalition will be revived with renewed vigor. But for this, you will have to introduce significant funding, raise opponents of the Hussites in the north of Yemen and generally prepare. Americans will be able to effectively support such air forces. But in order to destroy terrorists, it is necessary to occupy the territory that they control today. ”

Afghanistan 3.0

Ausleder says that the Husites tried to fire the American warships in the Red Sea and even once again talked about getting into the Harry Truman aircraft carrier, accompanying their words with a picture of a landing ship burning in the port. All this, of course, is complete delirium. The Husites also tried to fire at Israel’s missiles, but fell into Egypt.

David Handelman noted that now the Americans have a rather limited goal: after the Husites announced the renewal of the red sea blockade, the United States inflicted several aircraft and missile strikes on their bases, radars, command posts and leaders to make them change their minds. Husites in response attack American ships from the air. However, the effectiveness of American blows is not yet too high, since the Husites have long been accustomed to act in constant bombing and dispersed their strength.

On the other hand, attacks in the United States are probably also not yet brought special results. Nevertheless, Handelman recalled that over the past year, the Husites have achieved noticeable success: the American drones of Reaper were massively shot down, and rocket and unmanned attacks on Israel were inflicted. “Therefore, new successes are possible with the continuation of attacks,” he remarked.

Husites openly say that they will not cancel their blockade until Israel removes the blockade of the gas sector. Since they had already “restrained the word” earlier, Handelman believes that they are unlikely to retreat now.

In addition, according to the expert, the United States, their blows, want to not only put pressure on the Husites, but also show Iran that they are ready to use military force if necessary - especially against the background of negotiations on the nuclear program. Iran declares that he is ready to speak only in an atmosphere of respect and without pressure. As a result, Handelman believes that so far the situation does not change much.

“It is important to understand that the root cause of what is happening is Iran,” continues Ausleder. - Until Tehran began to pump the Husites with weapons, they were just another marginal terrorist group. Without Iranian help, they would not have become who they are now. If you collapse the ayatoll regime, you will be able to win all other terrorists. But this requires a ground operation. ”

Ausleder notes that a terrestrial operation against the Husites could be carried out by the forces of Yemenic formations that had already fought against terrorists. If they are by force to conduct a ground operation with the support of the coalition forces, perhaps the militants would have managed to defeat.

“With the help of only air raids and missile strikes, in my opinion, it is impossible to cope with the Hussites,” Ausleder believes. - Either you have to fire at them daily for several months without a break. But then the number of victims among the local population will become catastrophic. It is very difficult to determine who is peaceful and who is a militant. In addition, in Northern Yemen, the terrain is extremely difficult for accurate bombing - mountains and gorges. For the complete destruction of the Husit power, it is necessary to carry out a ground operation. But no coalition of Western states, of course, will go to send their troops to Yemen. This would be the Afghanistan 3.0 project. Saudi Arabia gathered a coalition of ten states to fight the Hussites. They had complete dominance in the air. They fought for five years, but it was not possible to defeat the Husites. ”

According to Sharp, the Husites still had the opportunity to fire Israel. For this, terrorists can use the remaining ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones. The militants, according to our interlocutor, have already struck Israel with the help of UAVs more than three hundred times. Moreover, Israeli air defense shot only about 100 drones. The rest either fell somewhere on the road or were destroyed by the US army. There is also a threat to the Khusita strike on Saudi Arabia and the Arab Emirates. However, at the moment, this danger has not yet come true.
