A historical event for world sport, which took place in the fashionable Greek resort place of Costa-Navaron, was classically and calm, sharply contrasting with the world that has gripped the world with turbulence. Although almost all tours of exhausting voting were predicted, as a result of which six applicants were to be eliminated in turn. But the struggle for the sports throne ended, barely starting,-the representative of Zimbabwe, the two-time Olympic swimming champion 41-year-old kirai Koventri, received the required number of votes in the first round.
Slightly worried, the newly elected pronounced a few mandatory words adhering to the occasion and, no, she had not yet begun to fulfill her new duties, because he will be in advance for three months to whom she is primarily obliged how much an unconditional, so unexpected victory.
Thomas Bach looked like a man who just did his job well-however, however, we can say with some admission about the entire sports and political career of the Olympic champion from Germany, whose fraction of which came one of the most difficult periods in the history of the Olympic movement. The fact that he conveys the brothers of the reign precisely Kirai Coventry is symbolic and at the same time pragmatic in his own way.
More vivid figures claimed for the presidential post - starting with the head of world athletics, an energetic and authoritative British, a two -time Olympic champion Sebastian Cow. Vice President of the IOC Juan Antonio Samararanch Jr., Head of the International Union of Cyclists David Laparten, Member of the IOC Executive Committee Prince Jordan Faisal Ibn Hussein, Head of the International Sports Federation Johan Eliash, Head of the International Gymnastics Federation of Morinaria Vatanabe-all of them were real applicants, everyone was laid in the traditional direction An important position, at least according to the gender part, all their election campaign was quite energetic, and each in addition to the pluses had obvious disadvantages, which is generally normal, but made the figure of each applicant, at least ambiguous.
The disadvantages of Kirsti Koventry still had to look for. The fact that a woman claims for such a serious post could be considered a plus - here one of the most conservative sports organizations set an example of a flexible and even revolutionary approach.
There could be no complaints about her sports experience (seven Olympic medals, participation in five Olympiads - this speaks for itself), nor for the experience of working in the IOC. The member of the IOC Kira became still in the course of his sports career in 2013, since 2018 he heads the commission of athletes, and has been managing the work of the coordination commission of the Olympiad-2032. And in her native country, since the same 2018, she is still the Minister of Sports, Arts and Rest-and, apparently, also copes.
But the main thing is reputation. There are no obvious spots on the biography, does not make sharp statements, does not show special media activity, in relation to complex situations it tries to remain as neutral as possible, which is largely ensured by the country of origin. All applicants tried to emphasize their neutral status, but they were not competitors from Kirsti Koventry. Thomas Bach, during his entire period of stay at a high post, saw Kiresti in business, could evaluate her potential and made, at least at this moment, an unmistakable choice. The fact that Coventry, the creature of Thomas Bach, did not leak into the media space immediately, but this was also a plus - many considered that the support of the “retired president” may not play a decisive role. And she played!

The distribution of votes in the first round suggests that the outwardly not emphasized the influence of Thomas Bach on the election process was very diminished: the kirsi Koventry - 49 votes, Juan Antonio Samararanch - 28, Sebastian Cow - 8, David Lapartin - 4, Moritaro Vatanabe - 4, Faisal Ibn Hussein - 2, Johan Eliash - 2 Voices. Most of the IOC members voted for the most neutral candidate. And - for the Bach course.
... It is clear that Russia at all stages of the elections was mainly interested in how and how quickly the problem of restoration of Russian sports will be solved - who hurts, and he takes out to them.
The range of opinions and statements in connection with the choice of the new president was and remains quite wide: from the hope of immediate and full return starting from the 2026 Olympics in Milan and even before, “nothing depends on the new president”. During the election campaign, the main statements came down to the fact that the most bad will be the choice of Sebastian COU, which, in connection with the 10-year-old bank of Russian athletics, is considered “Russophobe”. At the same time, none of the applicants made any special statements on the Russian problem, no matter how tried with us to identify the most preferred candidate. The attitude was not pronounced and mainly relatively benevolent to Kivnitri Kirstiy.
Congratulations to the Minister of Sports of Russia and the head of its Olympic Committee Mikhail Degtyarev in connection with the election of Kirsti Koventry to a high position ends with the words “We are waiting for the Olympic movement in the era of the new leader will become stronger, independent and prosperous, and Russia will return to the Olympic podium”, which can be attributed to long -term wishes. Yes, Coventri has already spoke about the problem, but in the general plan: “We must do our best to protect and support athletes from all conflict zones, we have a lot of conflicts, and many are taking place on my continent ... Each conflict is slightly different from another, but I think that we need to create a general political basis that will help us cope with these various conflicts.” To the person who will create such an effective “general political basis”, it will be possible to immediately erect a monument during life, and this is not a few months, or maybe even years.
The first woman, the President of the IOC, is the youngest in this position after Pierre de Cuberten, the first representative of the African continent in reserve for eight years. It just seems to be a lot - you can ask Bach.

... The world will still have time to congratulate Thomas Bach in connection with the final transition to the position of honorary President of the IOC, what will happen at the end of June, then the results of his activities will be summed up, because the coming three months of “passing cases” can determine much, without important decisions will not do. In the meantime, I can say that Thomas Bach will most likely be recognized as one of the most outstanding presidents, no matter how our “hawks” try to make him the main enemy of Russian sports and the destroyer of the Olympic movement.
When rumors began to seep that for the third period of stay of the current president in his post, in which he since 2013, the Olympic Charter could be changed, the Russian radicals were very outraged. When Bach announced that he would leave, there were voices that he "ran away, having done things."
You can’t please our patriots.
Of course, he will leave the inheritance complex - the international Olympic movement in a crisis for both objective and subjective reasons. Objective is a lag from changes and rhythm of modern life, as a result of which it is very difficult to find a balance between traditions and new challenges, healthy conservatism and necessary changes. Subjective are mainly associated with a conflict state in which entire continents are residing, with the position of individual countries and the attitude of entire groups of states to it, with a policy that in crisis times becomes a dominant over all areas of human activity. The slogan “Sports outside the politics”, which everything is trumped, can be put to the archive for a long time, replacing it with “athletes outside politics”, but it is also not universal.
On the neutral status with some relief in terms of wems, according to the previous strict rules, Russian Olympians, perhaps, will be able to calculate - the trend with the admission of individual athletes in key sports is visible. Full recovery is not a matter of today and, most likely, not this year, and it depends, first of all, how quickly the world of interest to all of us will come. And he is still beyond the horizon. And then no MOK and no president - alas, will not help.
