The Alekseevsky District Court of the Belgorod Region granted the request of actor Mikhail Efremov for parole, RIA Novosti correspondent from the courtroom reports . In 2020, Efremov was sentenced to seven and a half years in a colony for an accident in which a person died.
In his speech at the trial, Efremov said that he was repenting, apologized and asked to forgive him. He added that he paid all the compensation that the court appointed him. The actor promised to “exclude alcohol from his life” and never get behind the wheel again. “A longing by profession and I believe that I can still benefit society and my craft,” said the 61-year-old actor.

Efremova’s lawyer Yuri Padalko told reporters that his client would be released from the colony after the court decision came into force, that is, not earlier than 15 days later, if it was not appealed. Padalko said that after the release of Efremov, he would treat a “serious disease” of lungs. According to the lawyer, pulmonists managed to suspend the development of the disease, but Efremov needs to continue treatment in order to avoid a “sad outcome”.
In the summer of 2020, Efremov drove into the oncoming lane and crashed into the Lada Granta car, controlled by 57-year-old Curler driver Sergei Zakharov. The man received serious injuries and died in the hospital.

The Presnensky court of Moscow found Efremov guilty under an article on violation of the rules of the road in a state of intoxication, which entailed by negligence the death of a person and sentenced the actor to the eight years of the colony. Later, the Moscow City Court reduced the term to seven and a half years.
In March last year, the administration of the Belgorod correctional colony No. 4, in which Efremov was serving his sentence, approved his request for conditionally aid liberation.
