Putin called the entire system of power in Ukraine "illegitimate"

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the entire system of power in Ukraine is now “illegitimate”. “Civil authorities - today they are actually not legal in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine. The elections were not held there by the president! And the constitution is arranged in such a way that everything is appointed by the president, including regional authorities. If he himself is illegitimate, then everyone else is also, ”said Putin.

The President of the Russian Federation stated that because of this it is “it is not clear to him with whom to sign some documents, and it is not clear what power they have.” He made a proposal to discuss the introduction of a temporary department under the auspices of the UN in Ukraine for new elections. “In principle, of course, it would be possible under the auspices of the UN, the USA, with European countries, of course, with our partners and friends to discuss the possibility of introducing temporary management in Ukraine. In order to hold democratic elections, in order to bring to power the competent and trusting people of the people and then start negotiations on a peace treaty, ”he said .

In a new speech, Putin’s rhetoric regarding the Ukrainian authorities was tightened: earlier he announced only the illegitimacy of President Vladimir Zelensky - and now about the illegality of the entire system of power in the country.

Prior to this, Putin has repeatedly stated that, in his opinion, the Verkhovna Rada remains legitimate power in Ukraine. So, in February, arguing about the prospects of signing a peace treaty, Putin said that he would not consider Zelensky’s signature legally significant, but was ready to conclude agreements with the Verkhovna Rada.

The powers of the first presidential term of Zelensky expired in May 2024. Martial law introduced in Ukraine prohibits the holding of new elections, and there is a consensus in the country that while the war is underway, Zelensky remains a legitimate president.
