McNamara dreamed of becoming a writer. A bookcase was built into the wall, the whole room was occupied by a giant wooden table, and a printing machine stood on it. The window went out onto the neighbor's roof. McNamara signed her personal diary as “Michelle, Writer”.
Two days after the pawnshop was found in the lane, Maknamara, without saying to anyone, left the house and went to the place of the murder. There, she found fragments of the Walkman broken player and took them with her.

Having passed into the bedroom and jumping onto the bed, he put a knife to the girl’s head, while pressing the knife so much that blood went from her temple. Then he tied his victim and raped it.
“If you move or make at least one sound, I will stick this knife into you,” the girl later retold the words of the rapist.
After that, he left her on the bed. Again, threatening that she would kill her if she moves while he is in the house, the criminal left the bedroom. The girl managed to run to her father’s room and call the police, but the rapist had already fled by that time.

On December 30, 1979, the Golet police found in the apartment a 44-year-old orthopedic surgeon Robert Offerman of his own and the 35-year-old Debra Manning, who worked as a clinical psychologist. Both were shot. As McNamara wrote in her book, referring to police reports, the killer also ate the remains of the turkey found in the refrigerator. The police found evidence indicating that he escaped through a neighboring apartment: its residents said that he brutally hit their poodle.
