For the first time in 136 years, the city authorities of Paris decided to engage in the names of 40 women scientists on the Eiffel Tower, whose scientific achievements have remained little-known for decades. Since the construction in 1889, only the names of male scientists were listed at the second level of the tower. The decision was paid to the decision of the “Spit” publication.
It is reported that such an initiative was supported by the mayor of Ann Idalgo, SETE, which runs the Eiffel Tower, and the Femmes & Sciences association. Currently, in the second tier of the tower, the names of 72 men of science are engraved in gold letters - there are no women among them. The City Hall of Paris decided to replenish this gap and announced the creation of a scientific committee that will study the possible ways to add female names, taking into account the preservation of the historical integrity of the monument.

It is noted that the committee will include statesmen, well-known women-scientists, cultural heritage experts, historians of the Eiffel Tower and public activists. They will take the selection of names and work out technical solutions so that the inscriptions harmoniously fit into the architecture of the monument and do not violate the plan of Gustav Eiffel.
The French media write that the appearance of the names of women scientists on one of the most recognizable symbols of the world will be an important step towards recognizing their contribution to science.

The idea of engraving the names of scientists on the Eiffel Tower belongs to the French inner-builder Gustav Eiffel. Even when the project was presented in 1886, he understood: only the scientific use of the tower will be able to protect it from opponents and extend its existence. The tower was supposed to be destroyed 20 years after construction and then Aiffel decided to engrave the names of 72 scientists there.
Since 1889, the Eiffel Tower has been used as a laboratory for measurements and scientific experiments. It installed many scientific devices - barometers, anemometers, thunderbings and others. In addition, Aiffel allocated himself an office at the third level, where he was engaged in astronomical and physiological observations.
