Abkhazia was completely left without electricity

On April 19, the supply of electricity was interrupted throughout Abkhazia, the Chernomorenergo press service said.

“An accident occurred in the Georgian energy system, as a result of which the entire energy system of Abkhazia is de -energized,” the TASS quoted in the message quoted.

The main source of electricity for Abkhazia is the Ingur hydroelectric station located in Georgia.

The Georgian television channel Rustavi 2 reports that interruptions in the supply of electricity were recorded throughout Georgia, including in Tbilisi. As explained by the “State Electrosystem of Georgia”, the high -voltage line “Cavkasioni” was disconnected as a result of the accident.

By 12:30 local time, the energy company said, the accident was eliminated, the supply of electricity was resumed.

• Abkhazia regularly encounters interruptions in the supply of electricity. So in December 2024, the supply of electricity was temporarily stopped throughout the territory of the partially recognized republic due to the stop of the Ingur hydroelectric power station. Part of the needs of Abkhazia ensures a rewind of electricity from Russia, but the authorities of a partially recognized republic stated that they did not have enough funds to purchase electricity from Russia. The authorities of the Russian Federation, in turn, reported that they would provide Abkhazia with "emergency energy supply".
