According to the head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, traffic police officers tried to stop the car, but “the driver did not obey and opened fire on them.” He asked residents of the region “not to take or post photos or videos online” from the scene of the attack.
According to the telegram channel “112”, the attack on the patrol was planned. The attackers chose a location in advance and began shooting with machine guns, “catching the police by surprise.”
According to “112”, there were also four police officers, one of them is alive. He received serious gunshot wounds to his arm and leg. The Ministry of Health of Dagestan reported that a 17-year-old girl was wounded during the shootout; her condition is assessed as moderate. The Baza Telegram channel writes that she was wounded in the arm.
At the time of publication of the news, the identities of the attackers and their motives were unknown.
Last June, unknown persons with weapons opened fire in two cities of Dagestan at once - in Makhachkala and Derbent. During the attacks, 22 people were killed, including 17 security forces. Five attackers were also killed. As “Verstka” found out, two of the militants are the sons of the head of the local municipality, Magomed Omarov, and another of their accomplices is also called a relative of the Omarovs.
Omarov was part of the Dagestan elite for more than 30 years, and the regional authorities under his leadership actively demonstrated “terrorism prevention.” He himself called terrorists traitors. For more information about what is known about Omarov and his sons, read the “Layout” material.
