The next day, after the premiere, a television is in which Putin spoke about the “special moral beginning” of Russian people, the Moscow City Court approved the verdict of the elderly Nadezhda Buyanova - five and a half years in prison for an unproven statement. And the day before, no one was shipped to anyone for the next five to seven, 20 years only because judges also have a weekend.
How is this combined, based on the fact that Putin, albeit somewhat “wooden”, speaks of a “moral beginning” and the need to observe laws, apparently, convinced and sincere?
In the book "Dictators of Deception. The new face of tyranny in the 21st century »Sergey Guriev* and Daniel Traisman on a wide political and geographical material show:
The former models of totalitarianism, based on fear, gradually go into the past, hybrid formations are replaced by them, in which totalitarian regimes are masked by external attributes of democracy and the rule of law.
In some cases, such a policy, begun as a game, can lead to transformation of authoritarian regimes into real democracy.
This is the general trend that testifies to the attractiveness of the ideas of democracy, but a return movement is possible. ZIC-President Dmitry Medvedev once said that “freedom is better than not free”, and even supported the idea of the HRC about an independent examination in the Yukos case, as a result of participation in which Guriev was forced to leave the Russian Federation in 2013. But with the returned Putin of the Russian Federation, she moved in the opposite direction: from the dictatorship of deception - to the dictatorship of fear.
After the beginning, the Kremlin spun the nuts even more twisted: dissent is suppressed with terror, which means “horror”. He is “embarrassed” not only on disagreements, but also on loyal regime of state employees (in particular, judges) - this is a fear of losing work and a calm life.
In a demonstration broadcast from a meeting of the Security Council, which preceded the beginning of a special military operation, on the faces of members of the Council, we clearly saw fear, which, it seems, even delivered satisfaction to the president.
Then why does the window dressing continue to vote under bills in the Duma, with courts whose sentences are predetermined at the stage of initiating cases? Neither deputies, nor investigators, nor judges believe in legality - fear and cynicism reign at this level. Then for whom is the deception?
The answer, in my opinion, is that Putin himself is his only addressee. He also realizes the global trend for democracy, noticed by the Traisman and Guriev. Therefore, in history, he sees himself as a savior of Russia with the help of legal and somewhere even “truly democratic” measures. This is self -deception.
