The cardinals in the Vatican could not choose the new pope of the Roman

Cardinals during the Conclave in the Vatican could not choose the new Pope during the first round of voting on May 7. This is evidenced by black smoke, which comes from the pipe installed on the roof of the Sistine Chapel. Sky News is broadcast from the Vatican.

Black smoke means that none of the candidates could enlist the support of most cardinals. If the cardinals chose a new dad, white smoke would have come from the pipe. Voting lasted more than three hours.

The vote in the Vatican participated in 133 cardinal. To choose a new dad, more than two -thirds of participants should vote for one candidate, that is, at least 89 people.

The second round of voting is scheduled in the morning of May 8, it will begin at about 10:30 local time (11:30 Moscow time).

According to Vatican News, more than 45 thousand people gathered on St. Peter Square during the first day of the conclave.

• On the first day of the conclave, only one voting round passes. Subsequent rounds will be on other days. During the first four days of the conclave, up to four votes per day can be held. In total, the procedure for choosing a new pope provides up to 33 voting rounds.
• If, within 33 rounds, none of the candidates will enlist the support of two -thirds of the cardinals, then two candidates will be selected, who were leading in the last round of voting. In this case, a simple majority of votes will be required to win.
