In Bashkortostan, a village resident voted against the installation of a monument to Stalin, reports ex-deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Rustam Khafizov.
The issue was discussed at a meeting of residents of the village of Amirovo, Buzdyak district on April 17, the minutes of which were published on the settlement’s website. The document notes that it was proposed to install the bust near the memorial to those who fell in the Great Patriotic War. The proposal was rejected by a majority of village residents: 15 people voted against. The initiative to install the monument came from a local resident. As a result, the bust of Stalin will be placed on private property.
Local resident Laysan Iskhakovaspoke out against the installation of the monument, and was supported by two other villagers: “We should not forget about the millions of victims of Stalinist repressions, deportations, collectivization and political murders. Stalin is a controversial figure in history; his name is associated not only with victory in the war. Installing a bust of him will cause a split in society and will offend the feelings of many people whose families suffered from the Stalinist regime,” Iskhakovasaid .
In March, in Barnaul, activists held a rally against the Stalin Center on the anniversary of his death. The local “Stalin Center” was opened in December 2023 on the initiative of members of the Communists of Russia party: “The cult of Stalin’s personality has no place in Barnaul. Here they honor the memory of the victims, not the executioners. “Stalin Center” and similar projects only distort history,” noted the activists who posted leaflets “Barnaul against the Stalin Center.”
