Novyevropa studied campaigning and posters in Moscow dedicated to May 9
Photo report
"Victory!" On Pushkinskaya. It was there that before the war, street civil protests began most often.
The photo correspondent of Novo-Europe, who has been studying propaganda posters from the beginning of Russia's invasion of Russia, walked along the streets in the center of Moscow on the eve of May 9. According to the correspondent’s estimates, the banners and advertisements filled the city by Victory Day, and shops and cafes hang out several posters at once. What Moscow looks like on the eve of May 9 - in our photo report.

From the author “For several years of the Great War, I have been trying to take photos every day - mostly on the phone, because it is so easier to go unnoticed (although this is becoming more and more difficult in Russia, given the growing universal paranoia and suspicion). Most photographs are blurry, stealthily taken pictures of “Heroes of Svo” and military agitation. All this is rather brutal content to which I developed a certain immunity, but the preparations by May 9, 2025 was able to surprise me: they approached it so formally and casually. The traditional state gigantomania was added to the desire to get in and, obviously, protect itself and its business: the city was filled with typical and carelessly made military posters, cranes, cloves and tulips, lifeless AI images. In this impulse of the subject creativity, it seems to me, the main thing was lost - the memory of the war and its countless victims. Now this memory is obscured by huge banners with the interval of 1945-2025-and we all understand how hypocritical this parallel. It is not clear only how much time it will pass before something changes. ”
Workers set a huge banner at an abandoned house on Leningradsky Prospekt. The day before, it was partially plastered and painted with fresh gray paint. VTB Arena on the Dynamo metro. The columns are decorated with stretch marks in the colors of the St. George tape. Typical poster on Leningradsky Prospekt. It can be seen in different things throughout Moscow and in other cities - at the ends of the houses, at stops, in windows and as stickers. Participants in the war in Ukraine who are arriving on vacation and rehabilitation can most often be seen at the subway, airports, and at stations. The crowd in front of the memorial to G. Zhukov in front of the Historical Museum. An employee of the security service patrols the area at the Okhotny Ryad before the next rehearsal of the parade with the participation of the infantry. Triumphal Square. The excursion group at the banner on Okhotny. The Cadets and Yunarmeytsy at the Alexander Garden in front of the wreathing ceremony at the grave of an unknown soldier. Decorated swings at the Dynamo metro. A military chronicle and posters are shown on the screen. A residential building on Belarusian, decorated with typical posters. It looks like almost every house in Moscow now - decorated with both entrances to the porches and shop windows - "Tvorssville", "Magnolia", Ozon and others. Some business owners are moving away from the use of standard posters, but most prefer to just take in number. Often the same poster is glued in a row as a poster. One of the typical posters with the "participants of the Switch". Monument to G. Zhukov in front of the Historical Museum. Banner on Tverskaya Street. Placies in honor of the anniversary of victory are traditionally adjacent to agates for potential contractors. The poster of the military performance on theater square. Square in front of a large theater. A dense row of banners in front of the Alexander Garden. View of Tverskaya Street through the window of the bus. Fences that are used to block streets before the rehearsals of the parade.
