Dialectics of compromise: Sunday rebuke of Vladimir Pastukhov

Zinaida Pronchenko asked me to write a column for the Sunday release of Republic. I admit honestly, this request has put me at a dead end. The status of a weekend column obliges some special genre, or entertaining, or instructive (depending on what is meant by rest). Writing the next note on the fields of the current agenda is not entirely decent. Hit the moralization is even less decent: where am I - and where is morality? Ultimately, I decided to write a small journalistic essay on a topic that in a normal situation I would prefer to bypass the tenth road: about political compromises with the enemy. The topic is more than toxic, but if so, then why not.

In general, you can’t get away from the momentary context when discussing this topic, so why not start it. In February 2022, Russia committed an act of aggression against Ukraine, actually starting a full -scale war with the aim of the occupation of this country, which bashfully covered its eupemism (special military operation). Very soon, the attribute of this war was terror against the civilian population of Ukraine, which became a collective hostage in the eyes of the aggressor. The new vast lands that found themselves in the zone of control of the Armed Forces of Russia were soon added to previously occupied by the territories of Ukraine. Soon, the seizure of territories was legalized, as a result of which Ukraine lost territories comparable to the losses of Finland following the results of the Soviet-Finnish war of 1939-1940.
