Deputy Minister of Justice Oleg Sviridenko proposed to tighten responsibility for non -compliance with the law on “foreign agents” and introduce criminal punishment related to imprisonment, in case of any violation.
According to Sviridenko, it is necessary to punish for violation of the law following the example of the USA, Great Britain, Canada and Australia. He recalled that the American law Fara (Foreign Agents Registration Act) involves a fine of 10 thousand dollars and imprisonment for violation of any law provisions under five years. Sviridenko also gave similar examples from Great Britain, Canada and Australia.
At the same time, in Russia, as the deputy minister noted, fines amount to 30 to 50 thousand rubles, and criminal liability can occur only in case of repeated violation within a year.
It should be noted that such insignificant amounts of fines do not contribute to the observance of the law by persons recognized by foreign agents, and foreign agents themselves have triumphantly triumphs in the fact of their inclusion in the register. I think that the Ministry of Justice will offer initiatives, because this criminal liability must be introduced. This is a new concept. Enough to nurse these subjects who do not bring anything good for our country, ”Sviridenko said at the St. Petersburg International Law Forum.
The State Duma Commission to investigate the facts of interference with foreign states in the internal affairs of Russia supported the proposal of the deputy minister of justice. According to the head of the commission, Vasily Piskarev, Russian legislation "really refers to foreign agents very loyal."
“Given the foreign experience, as well as the current calls and threats of security and the country's sovereignty, we consider it necessary to make amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation that establish sanctions to foreign agents above the current ones,” Piskarev wrote .
