The US government forbade Harvard University to accept foreign students for training, writes The New York Times.

The Ministry of Internal Security sent a letter to the university that it would immediately cancel the certificate of the program that allows accepting students to exchange.

Due to the recall of the certificate, Harvard will no longer be able to issue documents necessary for foreigners to receive student visas in the United States. Foreigners who are already studying at Harvard will have to transfer to another university, otherwise they will lose the right to stay in the country.

Harvard's leadership has already stated that he considers the government’s actions illegal.

• The US government for the first time threatened Harvard for a ban on accepting foreign students in mid -April, demanding from the leadership of the university to provide reports on “illegal and violent actions” of foreigners studying there. The Ministry of Internal Security accuses the university of “wondering anti-Semitism” due to the missing protests of students.
• In parallel with this, in April, the White House demanded that Harvard conduct wide reforms, threatening otherwise completely deprived of the university of federal financing. Among the requirements of the government is to reduce the influence of activist teachers and stop accepting students “hostile to American values ​​and institutions”. Harvard refused, after which the authorities froze grants totaling 2.2 billion dollars.
• In the last academic year, Harvard, according to the university itself, studied about 7,000 foreign students, which is more than 27% of the total number of students.
