Vladimir Putin announced the creation of a “buffer security zone” along the border of Russia and Ukraine. This was written by journalist Pavel Zarubin.
“He already said that it was decided to create the necessary buffer security zone along the border. Our armed forces are now solving this problem, enemy firing points are actively suppressed, work is going on, ”Putin said at a meeting with government members.
He did not bring other details.
Military analyst, former SBU employee Ivan Stupak called Putin's statement “nonsense”. He told Novy-Europe that "no buffer zone could be installed." In his opinion, this term could be used in the First World War or at the beginning of World War II, but "with the development of weapons range, no buffer zone makes sense."
“From the point of view of Ukraine, the buffer zone in Russia passes along the line of the garden ring in Moscow. Drones fly: FPV thrones for 15-20 kilometers, Deep Strike drones-several hundred kilometers, shahed-hundreds and thousands of kilometers, artillery shells-90 kilometers, long-range seats (adjustable aviation bombs-ed.)-90 kilometers. There can be no talk of any buffer zone. This is a trick, ”the expert believes.
He describes the trick as follows:
- The buffer zone is supposedly installed, then the pro -Russian administration is installed in this zone, this territory is declared Russian. And then for this territory a sanitary or buffer zone is needed. And the game continues again, the second level.
Military analyst Kirill Mikhailov, in a conversation with Novy-Europe, suggested that Putin spoke about offensive actions in the Sumy region, where the RF Armed Forces are fighting for border settlements, attempts to break through the border in the Kharkov region, "which have not yet been successful."
“Putin’s vision of the buffer zone is obviously a strip of at least 10 kilometers depth along the entire line of the Russian-Ukrainian border, but the RF Armed Forces now have no resources to simultaneously realize this vision in full and continue current operations in the Donetsk region,” he emphasized.
According to “important stories”, Putin announced this for the eighth time over the past two years. For the first time, he threatened the creation of the "sanitary zone" in Ukraine on June 13, 2023. Similar statements from him also sounded on March 18, May 17, May 28, June 20, 2023, as well as January 31, 2024 and March 12, 2025.
