On May 21, eight participants in the mourning rally were detained in Nalchik on the anniversary of the Caucasian War, reports the Memorial Protection Center for Human Rights Protection.

They made protocols about an inconsistent action with road ceiling (part 6.1 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). The detainees were appointed administrative arrests.

Human rights activist Olga Begregova, who was at one of the meetings, told the OVD-Info that most detainees of the Nalchik City Court appointed three to ten days of arrest. Also, according to her information, one of them was assigned a fine of 10 thousand rubles. But there is no more accurate information about the court decisions yet.

On the court’s website, cards of seven administrative cases were published under the article on an inconsistent campaign received on May 22. At least four people on which the protocols were drawn up - Kazbek Mamikov , Khusen Gugov and Idar Tsipinov - in previous years participated in rallies on May 21. Euaz Zuber, which was drawn up by the same protocol, performed at the evening of memory on the eve of the procession this year. The protocols were also drawn up on Bisher Erokov , Beslan Gedhafov and Timur Nukhushev . Decisions on their affairs are not published.

According to the “newspaper of the South”, in the resolution of one of these cases it is said that the procession interfered with the movement of transport and was not agreed with the local Ministry of Nationalities and the Nalchik administration.

The Memorial reports that at least two thousand people participated in the procession and rally on May 21, including Circassians from Turkey, Syria, the USA, representatives of the public of North Ossetia, Ingushetia and Dagestan.

The police tried to shift the column from the roadway to the sidewalk, but the protesters continued the movement along the main street of Nalchik - Lenin Avenue. The Memorial clarifies that the police accompanied the procession along the entire route and did not apply strength to the participants.

“The procession was very beautiful, crowded,” said one of its participants. - Many participants were in national Circassian costumes, including children. The mourning melodies and songs of the Russian-Caucasian war sounded. Never for all the years of conducting folk processions there were no violations of the law. People walked, paying tribute to the dead ancestors. This is a unique case in the history of Russia, when such a folk project has been holding on for so many years. The people come out and say that in spite of everything, they are. ”

One of the participants in the procession told human rights activists that he and several dozens of activists on the eve of May 21 called the EC employees and offered to come to the department in order to get warnings about the inadmissibility of “actions creating the conditions for the offense”.

In Nalchik, mourning shares are held annually on the anniversary of the end of the Caucasian War. Their participants usually gather at the monument “Tree of life”, so that almost the memory of the people who died for the independence of the Circassian people. In 2023, the Kabardino-Balkaria authorities tried to ban memory shares, but the locals still held a procession in Nalchik.
