Turkish Airlines cancels flights to Moscow after Ukrainian drone attacks

In total, up to 60% of flights in Russia were canceled or sent out of schedule

Turkish Airlines announced the suspension of flights to Moscow due to restrictions that were introduced at Russian airports on the night of May 26 due to attacks by Ukrainian drones. This was reported by the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR).

“For technical reasons, in a number of cases, Turkish Airlines indicates flight cancellation on the board instead of delay status. As soon as the opportunity to fly appears, the time and flight number change on the board and it is carried out. We receive all the information and make changes to the bookings as we receive them,” said the head of one of the tour operators.

In total, due to restrictions at airports, according to ATOR, up to 60% of flights of various airlines are not operated as scheduled or are cancelled. Changes in the schedule affected Domodedovo, Vnukovo and Zhukovsky airports.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, on the night of May 26, Russian air defense forces shot down more than a hundred Ukrainian drones.

The Turkish Foreign Minister is visiting Moscow today

The suspension of Turkish Airlines flights comes against the backdrop of a visit to Moscow by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. He acted as a mediator in the first direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine since 2022, which took place in Istanbul on May 16.

Fidan has already held a meeting with Vladimir Medinsky, who headed the Russian delegation at the Istanbul negotiations.

TASS sources said that on the first day of the visit, May 26, the Turkish minister may also meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin.
