Zelensky confirmed the participation of Ukraine in negotiations in Istanbul

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in his post in Telegram confirmed that the Ukrainian delegation would take part in the second round of negotiations with Russia, which should take place on Monday, June 2, in Istanbul.

The first round took place on May 16, also in Istanbul.

"He heard reports of the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the General Staff, intelligence and security services of Ukraine. He determined the positions before meeting in Istanbul on Monday. The first is a complete and unconditional ceasefire. The second is the release of prisoners. The third is the return of the abducted children. And to establish a reliable and long -term world and guarantee security - to prepare the meeting at the highest level. Only leaders can be resolved. Our delegation will lead Rustem Umarov on Monday, ”Zelensky wrote.

The delegation of Russia in negotiations in Istanbul will be headed by presidential assistant Vladimir Medinsky. It is assumed that the conditions will be discussed in which the parties can agree to the peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in Ukraine. Russia refused to transfer its requirements to Ukraine before negotiations.

The Russian State Agency of TASS reported that the delegates who represent Russia in negotiations with Ukraine flew to Istanbul.

Medinsky and Umarov talked on the phone on May 28. They discussed the date and place of the meeting.

The United States did not send its delegation to Istanbul, preferring to wait for progress in Russian-Ukrainian consultations.

In the recent report of the Institute for the Study of War, it was emphasized that the statements of Russian officials about the position of Russia, made recently, make the conclusion of the agreements approaching the world in Ukraine extremely unlikely. In particular, the representative of Russia at the UN Vasily Nebena, said at a meeting of the UN Security Council that Russia "will fight as much as it will be needed."

As a condition for the ceasefire, Neelenya also demanded to stop the supply of Western weapons for the Armed Forces and mobilization in Ukraine. From the part of Russia there were also threats to capture the Kharkov, Odessa and Nikolaev regions of Ukraine if Kyiv does not agree to the Kremlin’s demand to completely withdraw Ukrainian troops from the Zaporizhzhya, Kherson, Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
