Composer Evgeniy Doga has died. The President of Moldova declared national mourning

Soviet and Moldavian composer Evgeniy Doga died at the age of 88.

Doga wrote music for cinema, theater, ballet, as well as works for choirs, strings and symphony orchestras.

Doga's music has been heard in dozens of films, including those shot by director Emil Loteanu ("Lautari", "The Camp Goes to Heaven" and "My Affectionate and Tender Beast"). The waltz from the film “My Affectionate and Gentle Beast” was performed at the opening ceremonies of the 1980 Olympics in Moscow and the Winter Games in Sochi in 2014.

Doga received the USSR State Prize in 1984, and in 1987 he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR. The composer was also awarded Russian and Moldavian awards.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu announced that on the day of the composer’s funeral, national mourning would be declared in the country.

“I learned with sadness about the death of the great Evgeniy Doga. We grew up listening to songs from the film “Maria Mirabela”, we cried listening to music from “Lautar”. The famous waltz from the film “My Affectionate and Gentle Beast” accompanies us everywhere and we recognize the master’s compositions from the first notes,” she wrote on Facebook.
