A strong earthquake occurred in the Mediterranean Sea

The earthquake of magnitude 5.8 occurred on the night of Tuesday in the Mediterranean Sea, tremors were felt on the Greek Island of Rhodes and in the Turkish resort city of Marmaris. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Turkey, one person died and at least seventy suffered.

According to the Turkish Emergency Situations Office (AFAD), the underground tremors were recorded at 02:17 local time (2317 according to Greenwich on Monday) about 10 kilometers from the coast of Marmaris.

The mayor of Marmaris Idris Akbiyik told the local media that dozens of people were injured when they jumped out of the windows of buildings during an earthquake in a panic. A 14-year-old girl, who had a panic attack, was bending. The destruction of residential buildings is not recorded.

According to the Enikos.gr portal, the head of the Greek protection service against earthquakes, Eutimios Lakes, on Rhodes some tourists were forced to evacuate from their hotels. However, the victims in Greece were not reported.
