In Yekaterinburg, a poultry farm worker was sentenced to 20 years in prison on charges of treason and attempting to set fire to a military registration and enlistment office.

Judge of the Central District Military Court Sergei Teleba sentenced 39-year-old native of the village of Reftinsky in the Sverdlovsk region Valeria Marchenko to 20 years in prison on charges of treason, undergoing training in terrorist activities and preparing a terrorist attack. A Mediazona correspondent reports from the courtroom.

The time spent in custody was calculated according to the formula one day at a time. The court decided to destroy the material evidence in the case (for example, bottles of Esentuki water). According to the court's decision, guardianship will be established over Marchenko's 12-year-old daughter.

“Fire, the number is even, but not mine,” Marchenko responded to the verdict with a laugh and said that she would not appeal it.

The hearings in the case of Valeria Marchenko were held behind closed doors. According to a Mediazona source familiar with the circumstances of the case, she was charged with preparing to set fire to one of the military registration and enlistment offices in Yekaterinburg, during which she was in contact with the “Ukrainian military.” The source does not know the details, since “almost everything is a state secret.”

Valeria, according to the publication’s interlocutor, allegedly “was able to obtain secret information about the activities of the Russian government.” The interlocutor did not specify what exactly this information concerned.

As Mediazona managed to find out, Marchenko had been working at the Reftinsk poultry farm as an ammonia refrigeration unit operator since at least 2019.

In September 2024, the Politzek-Info project published fragments of her letter from pre-trial detention center-5 in Yekaterinburg, where she has been staying since mid-March 2024. In it, Marchenko claims that due to her detention she did not have time to obtain a higher education diploma. At the same time, she believes that she acted “righteously, according to her heart”: “Because stop being silent and afraid, looking at the countless deaths of people and the lawlessness of darkness!”

Marchenko claimed that she agreed to “an exchange like Liliya Chanysheva,” with whom she crossed paths in pre-trial detention center-5 in Yekaterinburg.
