The Yakutsk city hall refused to coordinate a rally for maintaining direct elections of the mayor of the city, planned for June 14 on Komsomolskaya Square in the city center. It is reported by "7 × 7".
“They received a refusal without providing an alternative platform for a public event, in response they sent a letter demanding to provide an alternative and not violate the law,” the source said.
The application for the rally was submitted by the State University of State Generals Vladimir Kostachin (United Russia), Alexander Ivanov (“New People”), the head of the Yakut branch of Yabloko Anatoly Nogovitsyn and the coordinator of the “Young Guard of United Russia” in the Far Eastern District Vasily Popov. Among the organizers were also indicated by United Russia German Otov, communist Edgar Konstantinov, a member of the LDPR Nyurgun Golderov and a representative of the SRZP Sakayana Illarionova.
In December 2024, deputies of the City Duma of Yakutsk introduced a bill on the abolition of direct elections of the mayor of the city. In February 2025, the city plan voted for the abolition of the elections. The final decision should be made by the deputies of the State Assembly of Yakutia.
In November 2024, Yabloko in Yakutsk organized a rally against election cancellation. The head of the local branch of Anatoly Nogovitsyn was fined 10 thousand rubles according to the protocol on violation by the organizer of the Rules of the Promotion (part 1 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). According to the security forces, the protesters violated the banner of the city hall to move around the square, where the action took place.
