Governor claims massive UAV attack 'was repelled'

On the night of June 11, Ukrainian Armed Forces drones attacked the city of Kotovsk in the Tambov region, said Governor Evgeny Pervyshov. “Layout” tells what is known about this.

According to Pervyshov, it was a massive attack, which was eventually “repelled.” Local residents also said that about 10 explosions thundered in the sky over Kotovsk alone, which were heard for 10–15 minutes. At the same time, the report of the Ministry of Defense states that only 5 UAVs were destroyed throughout the region.

The target of the drones was the Tambov powder plant

The VChK-OGPU telegram channel was the first to report that the UAV hit the plant. According to him, as a result of the attack, an ammunition depot could have caught fire at the enterprise. Later, the Astra telegram channel also reported about the strike on the plant and the fire that started there.

Pervyshov also confirmed the information about the fire, but did not specify that it occurred at the enterprise. According to him, the cause of the fire was the fall of one of the downed drones. At the same time, Pervyshov claims, no one was hurt.

The company produces more than 200 types of products, including pyroxylin powder for small arms, hand grenades, artillery and mortar ammunition.

The plant has been attacked several times before. The last of these occurred on May 29, when the roof of a warehouse building caught fire as a result of a drone strike. Previous attempts to attack the enterprise were recorded in January of this year and July 2024.

In February of this year, the prosecutor's office went to court with a demand to oblige Yandex to remove or retouch images of the Tambov Gunpowder Plant on the company's cards. The court rejected the prosecutors' request and recommended filing a lawsuit at the place of registration of Yandex. At the same time, the images of the enterprise on the maps were still blurred.
