NATO reduced the program of the upcoming summit to one working session lasting two and a half hours instead of the initially planned three days - to “avoid premature care” of Donald Trump, as he acted at a recent G7 meeting, writes Financial Times.
According to three interlocutors of the publication, familiar with the preparation of the summit, the decision was made so that Trump "would not get bored and not to leave ahead of time."
The NATO summit, scheduled for June 24–25, will be held in the Hague. The leaders of the countries are found on an unofficial working dinner that the king and the Queen of the Netherlands are arranged - he will take place on the evening of June 24.
“The whole point is to make the summit as modest and focused as possible. With as fewer possibilities for failures, ”said the interlocutor FT.
- Earlier, Radio Liberty, citing sources, reported that this year they plan to release the Kommunik of the NATO summit without mentioning Ukraine, and Russia will be called a long -term threat in the document. Also, NATO countries will oblige each other to raise defense costs up to 5% of GDP by 2032. According to sources of Radio Liberty, Vladimir Zelensky must take part in the working dinner of NATO leaders on June 24, which is also expected by Donald Trump.
- At the G7 summit, which took place from June 15 to June 17, 2025 in the village of Kananaskis in the Canadian province of Albert, Vladimir Zelensky was supposed to personally meet with Donald Trump. However, the American president left the summit ahead of schedule on the night of June 17, and, returning to Washington, convened a meeting with the national security team in connection with the situation in the Middle East. According to FT sources, the decision to leave the Trump summit was partially taken due to irritation by French President Emmanuel Macron, who had previously visited Greenland and supported the island in protest against US plans to take control of it.
