
Vladimir Putin signed the law “On the Protection of the Russian Language”, obliging to post signs and inscriptions only in Russian. The document is published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
Amendments are made to the existing federal laws, including laws “On the Protection of Consumer Rights” and “On Participation in shared construction”. New norms will enter into force on March 1, 2026.
According to the new law, all signs, pointers and information plate in stores, offices and public places should be written in Russian. In addition, state languages of the republics or other languages of the peoples of Russia can be used - but only together with inscriptions in Russian, and information in both versions should be the same.
Moreover, the action of these provisions will not affect the names of objects put into operation until the day the law is engaged in force.
In addition, Putin signed the following laws:
The law that allows you to fine “foreign agents” in absentia for offenses committed outside Russia. The size of the fine will be up to 50 thousand rubles for individuals, up to 500 thousand rubles for legal entities;
the law on the creation of a “multifunctional information exchange service” - a national messenger integrated with the “public services”;
The law on freezing accounts and other property of persons involved in sabotage. Previously, accounts could only be blocked by the defendants in cases of terrorism and extremism;
The law on the introduction of criminal punishment for dropper (people who help scammers hide and cash out stolen money) up to six years in prison;
The law, according to which banks will be able to open accounts for adolescents from 14 to 18 years only with the consent of their parents.
