Trump and Zelensky met in the Hague, where the NATO summit is taking place

US President Donald Trump during the NATO summit met with the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.

The conversation took place after the completion of the main program of the summit and lasted about 40 minutes. Trump and Zelensky did not make joint statements for the press.

In his telegram, Zelensky called the meeting “prolonged and informative”, during it “all really important questions” were raised. He thanked Trump and the USA. “They talked about how to achieve a ceasefire and genuine world, talked about how to protect our people,” wrote the President of Ukraine, promising to provide details later.

According to the President of Ukraine, he and Trump discussed the purchase of American air defense systems (he did not specify what result the discussion led to), as well as the possible joint production of drones. The meeting was also discussed at the front. “Putin definitely does not win. He introduced the president to the fact of what really happens on Earth, ”Zelensky said.

He stated that Ukraine was “leading a brave battle”, and said that he was soon going to talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Answering the question why, five months later, the President Trump did not complete the Russian-Ukrainian war, although he promised to do this in 24 hours, the US president admitted that it turned out to be more difficult than he thought-because of Putin’s “complex” position and because Trump himself had “difficulties” with Zelensky.

A journalist from Ukraine asked Trump the question of whether Kiev could buy Patriot anti -aircraft systems from the United States - as the media previously suggest , this could become one of the topics of Trump and Zelensky. The US President actually left the answer, while noting that Washington does not have many these systems and that both the United States and Israel are needed.

According to Bloomberg, citing a source, before a conversation with Zelensky at a closed meeting of the leaders of the NATO countries, Trump said that the situation in Ukraine “got out of control” and “something needs to be done”. As the source noted, this was perceived by the assembled as a “positive sign” of Trump's interest in the cessation of the war.

Trump and Zelensky in the status of presidents met the third time. Their first meeting was held in the White House in February and ended with a public skirmish. The second meeting took place in Rome in April at the funeral of Pope Francis.

It was assumed that Zelensky and Trump would meet at the G7 summit, which took place in Canada in mid -June, but the US president left him ahead of schedule. This was officially explained by his desire to focus on resolving the conflict of Iran and Israel. The Financial Times wrote that one of the reasons for the early departure was "the lack of US president of interest in meeting with the Ukrainian leader."
