A criminal case has been opened against journalist Yuri Dud under the article of failure to fulfill the duties of a “foreign agent”. RIA Novosti reports this.

Yuri Dud was brought to administrative responsibility twice in a year

Earlier, the Moscow prosecutor's office reported that it had transferred the investigation materials against journalist Yuri Dud to the investigative authorities "to resolve the issue of criminal prosecution." This is stated in a press release from the department.

According to the prosecutor's office, over the past year Dud has twice been brought to administrative responsibility for not being marked as a “foreign agent.” Despite this, he “continued to publish posts without appropriate instructions in one of the instant messengers,” the department claims.

The law allows for the initiation of a criminal case if such violations are committed twice within a year - under the article of the Criminal Code on evading the duties of a “foreign agent”.

Dudya was added to the register of “foreign agents” for citing other “foreign agents”

Yuri Dud was included by the Ministry of Justice in the register of “foreign agents” in April 2022. The reason for inclusion in the list was the citing of materials from Meduza and The Insider in interviews with Alexander Gordon, Tima Belorusskikh and Katerina Gordeeva (both organizations are recognized as “foreign agents”), with the presence of foreign funding - revenue from advertising on YouTube.

Since being recognized as a “foreign agent,” Dud has been repeatedly fined for lack of appropriate markings: in December 2024 - 45 thousand rubles, at the end of February 2025 - 40 thousand, and again in April - 45 thousand rubles.

“Verstka” previously reported that by the end of 2024 in Russia the share of “ foreign agents ” against whom criminal prosecution is underway has increased significantly. By the end of 2023, 21% of “foreign agents” were involved in criminal cases, but over the year this figure increased to 29%. By the end of 2024, 507 people were recognized as “foreign agents”. Of these, almost 150 are under criminal prosecution in Russia.
