The prosecutor’s office requested the ex-head of the VGTRK Farida Kurbangaleeva eight years of the colony in the case of “military fakes” (paragraph “d” of part 2 of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code) and the justification of terrorism (part 2 of article 205.2 of the Criminal Code). The second person involved in the case is Alexei Baranovsky, who, according to investigators, participates in the hostilities as part of the Legion of Freedom of Russia on the side of Ukraine. For him, the prosecutor's office asks for 6 years in prison.
According to the prosecution, Kurbangaleeva “consciously used her reputation and media resources” and in May 2023 published an interview with Baranovsky on her YouTube channel, where, according to the prosecutor’s office, “statements about the heroism” of the Legion were contained. In addition, the accusation included posts in the Prague Grad telegram channel of January 14, 15, 16 and 20, 2023.
The journalist was arrested in absentia in June 2024. In February 2025, the Prosecutor General sent a request for extradition to the Czech Republic, but was refused.
Farida Kurbangaleeva began her career at the Tatarstan State Heads, and since 2007 he conducted the Vesti program on the Russia-1 channel. In 2014, after the outbreak of the war in the Donbass, she left the federal broadcast. From 2018 to 2021, she worked on the TV channel “Present time”.
