The list of individuals included former dean of the Shaninka Faculty of Political Science Vasily Zharkov, journalist Masha Myers, blogger Dmitry Khramtsov, former municipal deputy from Moscow Ksenia Torstrem, journalist Ksenia Kirillova, poet and video blogger Natalya Reznik, as well as ex-deputy from Nizhnevartovsk Dmitry Velikiy.
As the department indicated, persons recognized as foreign agents spread fakes about the activities of the Russian authorities and the Russian army. All of them live abroad.
The publication Activatika, according to the Ministry of Justice, carried out LGBT propaganda. In Russia, the non-existent international LGBT movement is recognized as extremist and its activities are prohibited.
According to Russian law, the status of a foreign agent limits a number of civil rights. Those included in the register cannot participate in elections, teach, serve in the army or hold positions in government bodies.
The legislation on “foreign agents” in Russia contains vague wording and is constantly becoming more complex. Previously, “Verstka” calculated that since the beginning of the war between Russia and Ukraine, Goduma has adopted seven large packages of amendments to the law on “foreign agents” . “Verstka” found out that deputies are against prohibitions on lawmaking, and supporting the state’s line is an easy way to distinguish themselves and earn bonuses.
