Residents of the city in Kabardino-Balkaria were left without water, light, gas and communications due to the mudflow. Announced emergency mode - but not everyone is evacuated

On the evening of July 21, in the Elbrus district in the south-west of Kabardino-Balkaria, a mudflow came down. Part of the city of Tyrnyauz was left without electricity, water and gas supply. Some local residents were evacuated, but the rest remain in their homes: they calmly relate to the flows of dirt and assure that they are already accustomed to such situations.

Mudkamennaya streams in the mountains of Cherek and Chegem gorges usually pass along a special tray of the Herkhozhzhans-Suu River bypassing the city of Tyrnyauz and other settlements, but this time the system failed.

The muddy masses came out of the channel and hit the bridge on the federal highway - Cool - Baksan - Elbrus: traffic in this section was closed in both directions. Later, due to the rise in the water level in the Baksan River, traffic along the bypass road was limited.

They also sat down coastal roads and damaged the fortifications. The coastal lines werehed: now in the Urvan and May districts additionally strengthen the shore.

An emergency regime was announced in the Elbrus district. Local authorities asked not to leave without urgent need and "not to give in to panic." According to the latest data from the head of the Republic of Kazbek Kokov, there are no injured.

In Tyrnyauz, they were evacuated, but only those who live in houses at the damaged bridge over the river. Locals in a conversation with the publication "Wind" explained: since they did not go for the first time, it makes no sense to take away all people from the village at once.

“Everything is in the water and everything is washed off, but there is no need for the evacuation of the whole city,” says Ilya from Tyrnyauz. Another local resident, Akhmat, also stated that “the evacuation of people is not required,” and confirmed that “there are no panic.”

- Everyone knows everything perfectly and understand the situation. We are accustomed to such cataclysms, ”said Akhmat.

The point of temporary accommodation was deployed in the building of one of the local schools. According to local authorities, on July 22 there were about 20 people there.

"Residents with understanding relate to the situation"

A resident of Tyrnyauza Nazir told the Wind that he and his neighbors “far from the first time” are faced with a similar situation. Now, according to him, the situation in the city has improved: "A little subsided, the number of flows has become a little less."

“In general, the situation is relatively calm. The only thing is that the roads are blocked to leave the city, the bridges were washed.

Residents of several houses were taken out only at night. So far, there was no further indications to the evacuation, apparently, they also do not want to call an excess panic either. Well, residents seem to be with understanding the situation ",

He shared.

On Tuesday, the gathering of mud masses continued. A local resident of Amin told the “wind” that “the mudflows continue to go, the water level in the mountain rivers is high.” According to her, people stand in lines at gas stations.

“Standard recommendations - do not approach reservoirs, stay at home, stock up on drinking water and be prepared to turn off the electricity and, possibly, gas supply,” the girl said.

The roads around the tyrnyuz are temporarily closed. Locals in a conversation with the “wind” express confidence that they will be opened in the near future.

“The bridge is brought down, and not one, but we do not give up. Maybe so far it is closed, but [the situation] will be resolved in the near future, I think, ”said the local resident Tengiz.

In the near future, the republic is expected by another rain. The hydrometeorological center warned of a thunderstorm, hail and a squallwood wind. On the rivers, a further rise in water level is possible, in the mountains - the gathering of new villages.

"This is not the first time"

The inhabitants of the tyrnyuza really far from the first time collide with the gathering of mudflows.

In July 2000, after pouring rain, a mudflow collapsed to the city center. By that time, according to the All -Russian Voluntary Fire Society, the Dam, which defended Tyrnyauz from the village in 1999, was not restored. According to VDPO, "local authorities did not find money for it."

Then seven people died, eight more were serious injuries. A powerful stream of dirt and stones demolished two porches of five-story buildings and concrete bridges on the Gerhazhan-Su River. In the process, the city was divided into three parts.

“The water in the Baksan River rose sharply and flooded the lower floors of four more residential buildings on Zavodskaya Street and Otarova Street. People did not have time to endure things. At one in the afternoon, another mudflow came the city. This time the water reached the second floors.

The townspeople saved on the roofs of their houses, from where they were removed with the help of helicopters. Per day, 4 mud stream went to the city from the mountains - more than 240 thousand cubic meters of stone and clay ”,

There were no electricity and clean water, fires began in several areas. More than 160 people were evacuated from flooded houses.

Next year, the mudflow again fell on the city. This time, the mud stream in the area of the village of Elbrussky blocked the section of the road with a length of 200 meters. There were no victims during the gathering.

On August 14, 2017, after the milestone flow in Tyrnyauz, a pedestrian bridge collapsed. The authorities introduced the emergency mode and evacuated 978 people. According to the Caucasian Knot, the locals returned to the houses on the morning of August 15, but on the same day the authorities again began the evacuation of people from the flooding zone. According to the publication, this time 420 people were evacuated, who were able to get home only the next day. In September of the same year, three people became victims of the new village, the entire resort area on Elbrus was left without gas supply.

“The only road leading to Elbrus was destroyed in several places, more than 7 thousand vacationers and local residents were cut off from the outside world,”

On August 5, 2022, the village of Sel was again in Tyrnyauz, an emergency regime was introduced in the city. According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of Kabardino-Balkaria, the “flooding of residential buildings and damage” was avoided by clearing the celestaling tray from sediment.

So, in July 2024, the Ministry of Emergencies guarded the city around the clock in connection with the danger of the melting masses. When rescuers stopped this practice, it is unknown.
