Putin signed a package of amendments tightening anti -excess legislation

Vladimir Putin signed a package of amendments that tightens anti -extremist legislation. It is reported by TASS.

The first law makes additions to an article on the organization and participation in the activities of an extremist organization (Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code) and an article on the procedure for appeal to a court decision (Article 393 of the Code of Criminal Procedure). This will allow the authorities to recognize any community as an extremist organization if one of its organizers or participants is found guilty under the relevant article.

The second law makes amendments to the law “On the Media” and the Law “On Countering Extremism”. Amendments clarify the wording that regulate the distribution of information about terrorist and extremist organizations. The list of extremist organizations will include not only legal entities, but also extremist communities if their participants are convicted under the relevant criminal articles. The document updates the procedure for maintaining a register of such organizations: information about them will be published on the Internet and official publications.

The third law complements the article on the abuse of freedom of information (part 2 of article 13.15 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). Now, at the mention of extremist or terrorist organizations on the Internet and the media, it is necessary to make a note on the liquidation of the organization or ban its activities. The maximum punishment under this article is 50 thousand rubles with confiscation of the subject of violation.

The bills were submitted to the State Duma in February. “Such a mechanism is able to launch the domino effect: first unit affairs, then automatic distribution of the status of an extremist organization throughout the group, and after this is a sharp increase in the number of accused. Moreover, the inclusion of the community in the register of extremist organizations means that all prohibitions that previously concerned organizations will begin to apply to it, ”said the ATS-IVFO lawyer Eva Levenberg.
