The editor-in-chief and producer of Baza were accused of giving bribes

Investigators will petition for their arrest

The Investigative Committee of Russia announced the detention of the editor-in-chief of the Baza publication Gleb Trifonov and producer Tatyana Lukyanova. According to investigators, editorial staff handed over bribes to police officers in the Belgorod region, Krasnodar and Krasnoyarsk territories in exchange for official information.

The charge relates to Part 4 of Article 291 of the Criminal Code of Russia - giving a bribe on a large scale. Under the charge, the detainees face up to 12 years in prison.

TASS reports that the amount of bribes involved in the case does not exceed 100 thousand rubles. In addition to the police officers, two women are also mentioned in the case - 74 and 30 years old, whom the accused, according to them, do not know.

The journalists deny guilt. Trifonov's lawyer stated that there was no evidence in the case materials.

Searches, threats and seized equipment

Trifonov, Lukyanova and two other Baza employees were detained on the morning of July 22. Later, the two journalists were released, but Trifonov and Lukyanova remained in custody. Investigative actions were accompanied by searches in the editorial office and in the apartments of journalists. Phones, computers and documents were confiscated.

According to Baza, during his arrest, Trifonov was threatened with death if he refused to provide the phone password. His lawyer was not allowed to see his client for 14 hours, and the interrogation lasted until three in the morning.

According to Kommersant, Trifonov and Lukyanova stated during interrogation that they purchased information and videos for money, but they were not talking about incidents, but about sporting or social events.

Investigators intend to petition the court for the arrest of Trifonov and Lukyanova, TASS reports.

Investigative actions against the journalist Ura. ru

Amid the events surrounding the Baza telegram channel, a journalist from the pro-government publication Ura was detained in Yekaterinburg on July 23. ru Igor Sergeev. He was taken to the Investigative Committee.
At first there were reports that Sergeev was sent for interrogation. Later, the TASS agency, citing law enforcement agencies, reported that the journalist was not detained, but was taken “to conduct an investigative action with his participation.”

Officially, Sergeev is a witness in the case of his colleague Denis Allayarov, who was previously accused of bribing his uncle, the head of the criminal investigation department, for information about crimes.
