Forbes: Operators proposed to leave access to critically important sites during the Internet disconnects

Communication operators, together with the Russian Ministry of Council, are discussing the opportunity to provide access to individual sites and applications while disconnecting mobile Internet, writes Forbes with reference to sources and operators.

The press service of Beeline said they proposed to leave access to “critically important digital services”-public services, banking applications and “emergency warning channels”.

According to the representative of the operator, in the case of the implementation of this idea, traffic to such services should route with a special priority. The Beeline noted that "the implementation of such a model requires a separate regulatory solution."

A source close to the Minzifra confirmed that the agency is involved in appropriate consultations with communication operators. The interlocutor of the publication noted that this question "affects various services and departments and requires a balanced approach."

The fact that such discussions are underway was also confirmed by a source in one of the telecom operators.

ComNews Research partner Leonid Konik, in a conversation with Forbes, explained that the only way to provide access to certain sites is not to turn off the mobile Internet completely, but to miss only the traffic that is declared priority. Such an opportunity, according to him, has only Roskomnadzor.

In recent months, in different regions of Russia, they began to temporarily disconnect mobile Internet against the backdrop of the increased massive attacks of Ukrainian drones. The data of the project “In touch”, collecting complaints of users and checking them with technical means, show that by the end of June restrictive measures began to regularly affect more than half of all regions of the country.
At the end of May, Forbes wrote that communication operators noticed an increase in the number of calls for connecting fixed Internet access against the background of disconnects of mobile Internet.
