Aeroflot canceled and detained more than 100 flights due to a failure. Hackers said that "completely compromised and destroyed" the IT infrastructure of the airline

Aeroflot reported on July 28 that the work of its information systems had a failure, which is why the carrier’s services work with interruptions. The Aeroflot press service, released on the afternoon of July 28, states that "in connection with a failure in the IT infrastructure, the airline carries out a forced adjustment of the flight schedule, including a partial cancellation of flights."

Aeroflot called on passengers to monitor the data that appears on airports on the entire route network of the company, as well as the information board and announcements in the airports. The company said that they are working to “minimize the risks of the performance of the production plan of flights” and restore the work of their services as soon as possible.

Aeroflot, Russia and Victory canceled more than 100 flights. By noon on July 28, Aeroflot reported ( 1 , 2 ) that she canceled 49 flights of flights (i.e. by one round-trip) from Moscow to the cities of Russia, as well as to Yerevan, Minsk, Astana. Among the abolished flights of the Airlines "Russia", which is included in the same group with Aeroflot. In addition, at least eight pairs of flights were detained (among them a flight from Moscow to Tashkent and vice versa). The company said that from midnight until noon on July 28, 76 out of 123 planned flights with a departure or arrival at the Moscow Airport, where Aeroflot was based, were completed.

In addition to Aeroflot and Russia, the failure also touched the flights of Lawkoster "Victory" - a warning "for customers of detained and canceled flights" appeared on the company's website. It is not clear how many Victory flights were canceled or detained during the day, there is no such information on the company's website.

At the same time, the Ministry of Transport said that together with the Federal Air Transport Agency and Aeroflot, the Ministry of Aeroflot organized work to transfer part of the passengers to the flights of Russia and Victory.

Aeroflot canceled part of the flights planned until the end of the week. In total, judging by the Aeroflot website , more than 350 Aeroflot and Russia flights with a departure from Moscow were planned on July 28, 22 of them indicated that the departure was canceled. By the end of the week, more than 60 flights with departure from Moscow were also canceled: July 29 - 21 flights, July 30 - July 12, 31 - 18, and August 1 and 2 - five flights each. What percentage of flights is canceled due to a failure is unclear.

Aeroflot promised to exchange tickets or return the money - but so far it cannot do this. The company said that passengers of the canceled flights can return money for tickets or re -register a departure on another date in the next 10 days. The press service noted that this will be possible only after the Aeroflot services resume their work. “At the moment, at Sheremetyevo Airport, tickets are renewed only by special categories of passengers: passengers and groups with children, not accompanied by children, passengers with disabilities for health, participants in their own and passengers, following a transfer,” the company said.

Aeroflot and Sheremetyevo called on passengers not to linger at the airport. Aeroflot’s press service reported in the morning that passengers of canceled flights could take pre-issued baggage in the baggage gym. “In order to avoid the formation of passenger clusters, we ask you to leave Sheremetyevo Airport,” the company said. In another message, representatives of Aeroflot wrote : “We ask passengers of canceled flights not to arrive at the departure airport.” The press service of Sheremetyevo, in turn, stated that passengers of canceled flights need to "leave the clean area before departure-it is inappropriate to stay in the airport terminals." They added that passengers will be able to return or exchange tickets remotely.

Passengers complained to reporters that flights are delayed and canceled without explaining anything. Hackers said they had a large -scale attack on Aeroflot. Responsibility for the failure in the operation of the airline’s services was taken by representatives of the pro -Ukrainian group of hackers Silent Crow . They argue that together with the Belarusian "cyberpartisans" conducted a long and large-scale operation, "as a result of which the internal IT-infrastructure" Aeroflot-Russian Airlines "was completely compromised and destroyed. “Throughout the year, we were inside their corporate network, methodically developing access, deepening to the infrastructure nucleus - Tier0,” the group said.

Silent Crow said they were able to get a full database of flight history, “compromise all critical corporate systems”, gain control over personal computers of employees, including top managers, and destroy about 7,000 servers-physical and virtual. “The volume of information received: 12 tep of databases, eight terabyte files with Windows Share, two terabytes of corporate mail,” the group said.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation confirmed the information about the hacker attack without going into details. The department reported that it organized "supervisory measures in connection with the delay and cancellation of flights at Sheremetyevo Airport." “The reason was the failure in the work of the Aeroflot information system as a result of a hacker attack.” Based on the materials of the prosecutor’s inspection, a criminal case has been instituted under an article on unlawful access to computer information, which entailed grave consequences or created a threat of their onset (part 4 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code).

In recent months, Sheremetyevo has already massively canceled and delayed flights-because of Ukrainian attacks. In Moscow airports, including Sheremetyevo, they repeatedly introduced restrictions due to the fact that Ukrainian drones tried to attack Moscow. The Federal Air Transport Agency completely or partially closed the sky, forbidding flights to ensure the safety of passengers.
