US President Donald Trump on Monday announced his intention to shorten the previously set 50-day deadline he had given Russia to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine . Now, according to Trump, the new deadline will be 10-12 days, starting today.

“There is no reason to wait 50 days, I wanted to be generous, but we are not seeing any progress,” Trump said. He once again added that he is disappointed in President Vladimir Putin.

The initial ultimatum was announced on July 14. Trump then promised to impose 100 percent import duties on Russian goods and goods from countries buying energy from Russia if a peace agreement was not reached.

Trump, speaking to reporters in Scotland, where he met with the British Prime Minister, again emphasized that Russian troops continue to strike Ukrainian cities despite negotiations.

The US President also confirmed his readiness to supply weapons to partners who will send them to Ukraine, strengthening support for Kyiv.

Trump's special envoy for Middle East peace, Steven Witkoff, said in a conversation with Fox News that if a settlement to the Ukrainian conflict is achieved by the end of Trump's second presidential term in January 2029, it will be a success.

Witkoff stressed the priority of resolving the conflict in Gaza within the same time frame. “I think these will be major achievements,” a White House official said.

During the election campaign, Trump repeatedly stated that he would not have allowed a war in Ukraine if he and not Joe Biden were president. Trump also said he would end the war “in 24 hours,” but did not reveal details of his plan.

Russia's reaction

The Russian side has not yet commented on Trump’s new statement about reducing the deadline.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov earlier today again voiced Moscow's demands on Ukraine - refusal to join NATO and recognition of territorial changes. Kyiv categorically rejects these conditions and insists on a ceasefire without preliminary demands.

The Kremlin called Trump's first ultimatum "very serious" and said it was analyzing its consequences. The representative of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, noted that President Putin will comment on the situation when he considers it necessary.

Meanwhile, the Russian stock market reacted to the new statements by the US President with a sharp fall.
