The Cassation Court removed the shares of the Russian Raiffaisen, Reuters said today with reference to the lawyers of the Russian “daughter” and the Austrian RBI. The solution brings RBI closer to the option of possible withdrawal from Russia, on which, as the bank assures, it has been working for more than three years, since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the agency writes.
The arrest of shares belongs to the lawsuit of the Rasperia company for 2 billion euros. In June, he once again refused to remove the lower court.
The essence of the scheme with Rasperia (previously related to Oleg Deripaska) was an attempt to withdraw Raiffeisen assets in the conditions of anti -Russian sanctions. In general terms, we set out this scheme here : in 2023, the Austrian RBI wanted to buy 27.8% of the Austrian Strabag through the Cyprus Rasperia Trading Limited for 1.51 billion euros. And Raiffeisen would then transfer the asset of the mother company in the form of a dividend in kind.
As a result, the deal attracted the attention of European and American regulators, and RBI abandoned it “for precaution”.
Subsequently, the Rapperia Tradition Limited MKAO (the company received this name after redimization to Russia) filed a lawsuit against the Russian court for a forced sale of a share, and in January 2025 it achieved the arrest of assets and decisions to write off 2 billion euros (deducted by interest) in the form of lost benefits. The reserves for this write -off led to the loss of the “large” RBI in the second quarter.
The removal of arrest allows us to assume progress on the sale of the Russian Raiffeisen, but this was far from the only obstacle. For the transaction, at least you need a suitable non -conquest candidate, approved personally by Vladimir Putin.
There were many more or less strange rumors about the applicants, the latter gave the asset to the son -in -law of the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, a millionaire Istwan Tiborts. The transaction supposedly had to pass with the participation of OTP Bank. All parties have refuted such intentions.
