Izvestia: in Russia sharply Raise traffic SMS messages due to disconnects of mobile Internet

In the summer of 2025, in Russia, for the first time in the last 12 years, the traffic SMS messages grew, the main reason is the frequent disconnecting of mobile Internet. This was reported by Izvestia with reference to market participants.

According to the publication, in June-July 2025, the traffic SMS messages increased by 12-15% compared to the beginning of the year. We are talking about both service messages and personal correspondence.

The press service of Megafon said that its subscribers began to use SMS more often by an average of 15%. The company T-2 talked about the growth of SMS traffic by 2%.

According to the leading analyst Mobile Research Group Eldar Murtazin, the main reason is the frequent cases of disconnecting mobile Internet, which is due to which push notifications in various services ceased to work. In this regard, the companies switched to the SMS format.

So, the Logistic operator DPD at the end of May launched an option that allows you to send notifications of delivery only through SMS, without the use of instant messengers. Other services began to be used in a similar method. For example, to pay for parking from a mobile phone account, it is now necessary to send retaliatory SMS messages, the interlocutor of the publication said.

Izvestia also write that in June-July 2025, Russians began to twice as often to buy routers for home Internet compared to the same period of 2024. The reason is the same - constant disconnection of the mobile Internet.
