In Roskomnadzor, they reported on the adoption of "partial limitation" calls to Telegram and WhatsApp. The corresponding press release of the department was distributed by the state media.

The department reported that this was necessary "to counteract criminals."

“No other restrictions on their functionality are introduced,” the RKN press release says.

The department claims that Telegram and WhatsApp messengers "have become the main voice services used to deceive and extort money, involvement in the sabotage and terrorist activities of Russian citizens."

In recent days, Russian Internet users complain about problems with calls in WhatsApp and Telegram messengers. The representative of the “In touch” project told the agency that the malfunctions in the work of WhatsApp and Telegram do not look random, since complaints come to the work of calls. In his opinion, the Russian authorities can conduct exercises to block calls in foreign messengers.

“Caution Media”, citing a source in the Government of the Russian Federation, wrote that Russian mobile operators proposed blocking voice calls in foreign messengers. Thus, they hope to withdraw the main claims of the security forces against messengers and prevent the possible complete blocking of WhatsApp and Telegram.
