US President Donald Trump talked on the phone with Alexander Lukashenko. The first conversation was reported by the press service of Lukashenko. Later, the negotiations were confirmed by Trump himself.
“The purpose of the call is to thank [Lukashenko] for the release of 16 prisoners. We also discuss the possibility of releasing another 1300 prisoners. The conversation went very well. We touched on many topics, including the visit of President Putin to Alaska. I look forward to meeting with President Lukashenko in the future, ”the US leader said.
Trump did not specify what 16 prisoners are in question. In July, the press service of Lukashenko reported that he pardoned 16 convicts who “committed various crimes, including an extremist orientation” (that is, including political prisoners). The names of pardoned, as well as what they were convicted for, were not reported.
The press service of Lukashenko has not yet disclosed the content of the conversation. They only noted that the conversation ended “10 minutes ago” - right before Trump flew to Alaska.
Update. During the conversation, Lukashenko and Trump “discussed the issues of a bilateral agenda, regional subjects and a situation in hot spots, including Ukraine,” BelTA reports. Lukashenko invited Trump to Minsk.
