The far-right activist and close associate of Donald Trump was shot and killed on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, in Utah at a public event at Utah Valley University.
About three thousand people attended the event. Kirk participated in the debate and answered questions from the audience before the murder. One of the last questions asked concerned the problems of mass shootings in the United States.
The shot rang out while Kirk was on stage. The bullet hit the activist in the neck. Immediately after the murder, American security forces detained two people, but then released them without finding any connection with the attack. The university, however, said the shooter was on the roof of a building near Kirk's speech. No one has been detained at this time.
Kirk died shortly after the attack in hospital. He is survived by his wife and two young children.
Kirk was the founder of the show Turning Point, a political debate between the right and left on college campuses in the United States. He defended the right to freely bear arms in the United States, considered it necessary to ban abortion and limit migration. Kirk's rhetoric was popular among the young wing of the American right - their votes became an important component of Trump's success in the last election.
Donald Trump released a video message after Kirk's death. He called the murdered man a “martyr for truth and freedom,” and blamed the attack on “radical left-wing rhetoric” and “left-wing political violence.”
