The United States abolished sanctions against the Belarusian Belavia Belarusian airline. This was announced on September 11 by the special representative of President Donald Trump John Cole at a meeting with Alexander Lukashenko in Minsk. “This decision was made by the president [Trump], who said:“ Do it immediately, ”Cole noted, adding that the step was agreed by all specialized departments.
As the BelTA agency reports , at a meeting with Cole Lukashenko, he discussed the issue of releasing political prisoners:
“Listening to Trump recently, as I understand it-from your presentation, most likely, he is very concerned about the questions, as he said, hostages or as there ... political prisoners and something else ... I do not mind. Let's discuss this topic so global. [...] And if Donald insists that he is ready to pick up these all those released to himself, the Lord with you, let's try to develop a global deal. As Mr. Trump loves, a big deal, ”BelTA quotes Lukashenko's words.
In parallel with the announcement of the abolition of sanctions, the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauceda announced the release of 52 prisoners, including six Lithuanian citizens. All of them are now in Lithuania.
