The Ukrainian authorities underestimate the country's need for external financing. According to the IMF estimates, the country needs an additional $ 20 billion in the next two years, Bloomberg found out .
- The figure arose in the course of recent discussions of external assistance at 2026–2027 by the IMF delegation in Kyiv. The Ukrainian side insisted that she would have enough $ 37.5 billion, representatives of the IMF believe that at least $ 10 billion is needed, and preferably $ 20 billion.
- While consultations are ongoing. When the figure is agreed, the IMF will be released with a proposal for additional allocations to the country's sponsored countries.
- It will not be easy to find money: although the EU and the USA and the USF remain the main sources of financing - the third most important. The current allocations of the fund of $ 15.5 billion are calculated until 2027 and are essentially already distributed. The country's prime minister Yulia Sviridenko expects to coordinate the new tranche before the end of the year, the agency writes.
- The IMF conditions are traditionally strict. The fund has questions for some expenses of the Ukrainian budget, including confirmation of payments to military personnel, as well as to tax policy and the struggle of the Government of Ukraine with the shadow economy, which it itself estimates at 30% of GDP.
