Elena (Moscow region). The last three and a half years the war has been in my life a huge topic, in fact displacing “normal” emotions and experiences. At the very beginning, at the end of winter - in the spring of 2022, I was simply overwhelmed by shame, anger, bewilderment. It seemed natural that people should be indignant and together to do something. Gradually, a degree of indignation decreased, but there was no complete adaptation. I still start the day by reading the news, passionately awaiting good news. Sometimes, waking up at night, I think that, probably, somewhere in Ukraine people are now hiding from shelling in the subway or in basements, and again it is made ashamed ...
It hurts to read about the war crimes of our warriors, about the death of civilians, especially children. All these years I feel like a foreign body: I have a feeling that people around me do not care about what is happening. I live in the village, and my neighbors, at best, say that nothing depends on them, so it makes no sense to “steam”, and the rest unconditionally support our bosses. It infuriates me when they say to me: "If you do not like here, then what are you not leaving?" I am not leaving, damn it, because it is my country, my whole life is connected with it. Here, all my relatives, the old mother, and most importantly, I myself am not young and I do not want to sit on the neck of taxpayers somewhere in Europe.
Probably the strongest disappointment of my life is disappointment in my compatriots. It is amazing how easily people are bought on lies and propaganda, but the corruption of children is especially disturbed by the suggestion of chauvinistic and other false ideas.
I would dream that my beloved grandson, when it grows up, went to restore Ukraine (unless, of course, Ukrainians allow him) or help Ukrainians with whom the war broke life.
