Zelensky arrived in the USA to participate in the UN General Assembly

The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky arrived in New York the day before. The main goal of his visit is to participate in the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. Zelensky will be present at a meeting of the UN Security Council dedicated to the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Also, the President of Ukraine will hold a bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump. Probably, it will also take place today. Zelensky said that during this meeting I would like to find out “how much there is an understanding that the guarantees from partners will be the ones we need”, as well as discuss the strengthening of sanctions pressure on Russia.

Prior to negotiations with Trump, Zelensky met with the special representative of US President Kitu Kelllog, which discussed the purchase of American weapons and the situation at the front, as well as with the Prime Minister of Great Britain Kirmarmer.

For Zelensky, this will be the third meeting with Trump in the United States. The first took place in February - and ended with a scandal that led to a short -term stop of American assistance. The second meeting was held in August in the presence of the leaders of European countries. Zelensky and Trump said that they were satisfied with its results, although some breakthrough agreements (the meeting was devoted to post-war guarantees of the security of Ukraine).

According to Reuters, since then the Ukrainian side has chosen a more pragmatic approach and is now considering a trip to New York as a high-level routine diplomatic event, and not as a “decisive meeting”, after which a serious change in the situation is possible.

The agency recalls that intensive lobbying from Kyiv and European countries could not convince Donald Trump to introduce new tough sanctions against Russia.
