The death of the journalist was confirmed by Hans Lucas on his social networks.

“Having a particular interest in the conflict in Ukraine, he has visited the country regularly since the Russian invasion began in February 2022. Since March 2022, he has been documenting the siege of Kyiv and since then has continued to testify to the reality of the war and its consequences for the civilian population. Like many of his colleagues, he was the holder of a Ukrainian journalistic ID,” the agency’s statement says.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolences to Lallican's family and "all his colleagues who risk their lives to inform us and testify to the reality of war."

As the 4th Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces clarifies, together with Lallikan, Ukrainian photographer Grigory Ivanchenko came under Russian attack. He was injured and his condition is “stable.”

“Both journalists were wearing personal protective equipment, and their bulletproof vests had identification marks - the inscription PRESS ,” the Ukrainian military noted.
