A resident of Kuban was sentenced to five years for writing letters about joining the Freedom of Russia legion.

The Southern District Military Court sentenced Krasnodar resident Igor Yakovenko to five years in prison, accused of preparing to join a terrorist organization, the court's press service reported .

As specified, on May 28, Yakovenko signed up with “a person engaged in recruitment activities and organizing travel to the territory of Ukraine” in order to fight for the “Freedom of Russia” legion.

He also, according to investigators, sent his interlocutor a form to join the legion - after which he was detained by FSB officers.

It is not specified how the security forces found out about the correspondence: the practice of creating fake websites supposedly related to the legion, but in reality administered by the security forces, is known.

According to the court's verdict, Yakovenko will have to spend the first two years of imprisonment in prison, and the rest of the term in a maximum security colony.
