A Moscow court received a criminal case against queer activist Sasha Kazantseva - she was accused of three counts

On October 3, the Khoroshevsky District Court of Moscow received a criminal case against queer activist Sasha Kazantseva, Mediazona noted .

She was accused of distributing military “fakes” on the Internet (Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code), inducing participation in the activities of an extremist organization (Part 1.1 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code) and failure to comply with requirements for “foreign agents” (Part 2 of Article 330.1 of the Criminal Code). What exactly the cases of “fake news” and extremism are related to is not specified.

At the end of September, a Moscow court arrested Kazantseva in absentia under a “foreign agent” criminal article. In March, the Ministry of Internal Affairs put her on the wanted list.

The activist was added to the register of “foreign agents” in February 2023. The Ministry of Justice explained its decision by saying that she “promoted LGBT relations” and “took part in a gathering” in support of Ukraine.

After this, Kazantseva was fined several times under administrative protocols due to unsubmitted reports on her activities and the absence of “foreign agency” markings on social networks (parts 2 and 4 of Article 19.34 of the Administrative Code).
